Individual psychotherapy
Individual therapy is time set aside for you and nothing else. It is a chance to slow down, think out loud and work through whatever is making life harder than it needs to be. Some people arrive with a clear sense of what is wrong. Others simply know that things are not right.
Who individual therapy is for
People come for all sorts of reasons. Some are in the middle of a period they cannot make sense of on their own. Others keep running into the same difficulty and want to understand why it keeps repeating. There is no threshold you have to meet before therapy is worth considering. If something is troubling you, that is reason enough.
Issues I work with
I work with a wide range of difficulties, among them anxiety, depression, trauma — including birth trauma, grief and bereavement, relationship problems, self-esteem, identity, isolation, addiction, abuse, work stress, and the upheaval that comes with a major life transition. If you are unsure whether what you are carrying fits, ask me when you get in touch.
How the work unfolds
Early sessions tend to be about getting our bearings; what has brought you here and whether the two of us work well together. After that the shape of it is largely yours. There is no programme to get through and no expectation that you will turn up each week with something prepared. You can read more about the thinking behind this on the approach page.
Practicalities
Sessions take place in person at The Practice Rooms, at my practice in Cotham or Clifton, Bristol, or online over Zoom, whichever suits you better. Session length, fees, and the cancellation policy are on the fees page, and if you would like to know what a first meeting involves, that is covered on the first session page.
Session length and fee
Individual sessions last 50 minutes and are priced at £70 per session. Full details, including cancellation policy and payment options, are on the fees page.
